101. Allosaurus fragilis
Endocast (Brain Cavity)

Allosaurus fragilis Late Jurassic
Western United States

Although much maligned for having small brains, it may be surprising to realize that dinosaur brains are not actually preserved. We can only study the brain structure by examining the rock sediment naturally filling the inside of the brain cavity.

These natural casts of the inside of the brain cavity are known scientifically as endocasts. However a fair amount of the brain anatomy can be discovered by the careful study and comparing of endocasts and modern brains.

Here’s a chance to own a copy of the only known endocast of the theropod Allosaurus.
