108. Allosaurus fragilis
Left Ilium (Hip Bone)

Allosaurus fragilis Late Jurassic
Western North America

The ilium, along with the pubis and ischium, make up the pelvis in dinosaurs.

The hip shape differs between dinosaur species and provides information about a dinosaur’s evolutionary relationships. The broad, plate like part of the ilium is for the insertion of powerful muscles which moved the leg. The semi-circular part is the upper half of the hip joint.

This ilium is from an Allosaurus only ¼ adult size.
