135. Knightia sp.
Fish
Eocene
Western North America
Knightia was a herring like fish that lived in large schools in the great Eocene age lakes of the western U.S.
The upturned mouth indicates that it was a surface feeder.
Because of its abundance, Knightia served as food for a number of other, larger fish; sometimes being preserved within the stomach region of fossils fish.
See items 133 and 134 for other fish that lived with Knightia.
