139. Allosaurus fragilis
Juvenile Left Femur (Thigh Bone)
Late Jurassic
Western North America
Allosaurus fragilis was one of the largest predatory dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic. However, even this great carnivore had to start small.
Here is a small Allosaurus thigh bone measuring only 10 inches in length. A large adult Allosaurus can have a femur nearly four feet in length!
The rounded upper end is where the femur attached to the hip socket and the large boney projections are for the attachment of muscles coming from the hip.
